As summer kicks into high gear, the hamburger once again gets the attention and adoration it so rightly deserves. Served sizzling right off the backyard grill, is there any dish that is easier to make or more versatile to serve? If you’re looking to kick your burger repertoire up a notch, Bick’s has a new collection of burger recipes to add to the menu this summer, along with some tips to make sure that your burgers are tastier than ever!

  • When forming the burgers, make an indent with your thumb in the middle of the burger. This will help the patty to plump evenly and not form into a sphere while cooking.
  • You need a light hand when forming the patties. Handle the meat as little as possible. If you pack the meat together too densely, you’re bound to be serving hockey pucks instead of juicy, tender burgers tonight.
  • Never press down on a burger with a spatula once it’s on the grill. This will force those yummy juices right out of the burger. Remember, juices equal flavour. You want them in the burger not left on the grill.
  • While many people love to have a good sear on the outside of their burgers, don’t be tempted to cook them on high heat. You’ll have a crusty outside and an uncooked inside if you do this.

So, let’s get cooking! All of the following recipes will make four 6-oz (170 g) burgers or 6 4-oz. (115 g) burgers. Patties should be flattened to about 1/2-inch (1 cm) thickness for even cooking, and all should be cooked right through – with no pink inside – for safe consumption.

Here's a delicious way to dress up your next barbecue! First, make a Tangy Mustard Sauce by mixing together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, green relish and lemon juice. Spread the sauce on both sides of a croissant. Add a grilled salmon fillet and top with Bick's Banana Pepper Chunks, Bick's Mini Crunch'ems® pickles and sliced red onion. Add your favourite cooked beef burger. Then top with a slice of cheddar cheese, Bick's Hot Pepper Rings, crushed nacho chips and chopped tomatoes. Ole!
